Frequently Asked Questions

Is the camera reusable?

Yes! If you're careful with your gluing and taping (and later un-gluing and un-taping) the camera can be used again and again.

How long should I expose the film for?

If you haven't yet developed Winogrand's eye for exposure, we've made a handy little PDF exposure chart for you to download as a reference. You can print it out and carry it with you: http://likea-camera.com/exposure-guide.pdf

All my photos are grey or foggy, is there a way to fix this?

The double box shouldn't leak light, but it can. Use tape to seal up any gaps where light might be able to get in, especially for the inner box to which the film is attached. Black electrician's tape works really well.

What do I do with the 'old' film roll shown on the instruction sheet?

The 'old' film canister is home to your exposed film while it's in the camera. Take a roll of cheap, expired or compromised film and pull the film strip out as far as it will go. Trim it so that half an inch or so is left protruding from the canister. Tape the leader from the new roll to the protruding stub so that it can be pulled into the old canister. This keeps it safe from any nasty light that might get in!

After each shot, advance the newly exposed film into the 'old' canister using the included precision film advance device (paper clip). When the roll is fully exposed, use the same device to rewind the exposed film back into its 'home' canister before opening the camera.

How many turns do I need to advance the film after each shot?

One full turn of the paper clip should do it. Remember to ask your lab not to automatically cut your prints though.

I have a question that's not answered here, what should I do?

Send an email to contact@likea-camera.com and we'll try to help.
